Fig Cave: a hidden jewel of the Gulf of Orosei

minicruise gulf of orosei

If you are on vacation in Sardinia besides the wonderful coves of the Gulf of Orosei, you cannot miss the Grotta del Fico, one of the most fascinating sea caves on the island. Located in the territory of Baunei, it is a must-see for those who love nature, the sea and the evocative atmosphere of underground cavities sculpted by time.

WHERE THE FIG CAVE IS LOCATED

Grotta del Fico

Grotta del Fico is located in the municipality of Baunei, within the Gulf of Orosei in Sardinia.

How to reach the Fig Cave?

The Fig Cave opens a few meters above sea level, along the east coast of Sardinia, in the stretch between Cala Mariolu and Cala Biriola. We are in the middle of the Gennargentu National Park and the Gulf of Orosei, a protected area that holds breathtaking landscapes and a crystal clear sea. Therefore, the cave can only be reached by sea, choosing a mini-cruise of the Gulf or independently renting an inflatable boat.

When to visit it?

Fig Cave is open from May to October, during the months when the sea is calmer and weather conditions allow access. The guided tour lasts about 1 hour and always takes place with a caving guide, to ensure safety and enhance the experience.

Reservations are recommended, especially in July and August, when attendance is highest, by purchasing tickets directly from the official website.

Useful tips

Although it may seem strange to take them with you on a boat trip such as the Gulf of Orosei Minicruise, for the cave visit we recommend you bring:

  • Comfortable shoes for the visit inside the cave;
  • A light jacket: the temperature inside is lower than outside;
  • A camera to capture the moment, but beware, you cannot use a flash.
